Étienne Camara: Panathinaikos eye move for Charleroi’s France-Guinea midfielder

France-Guinea defensive midfielder Étienne Camara of Belgian side R Charleroi SC is being heavily linked with a summer switch to Greek giants Panathinaikos.

The 23-year-old, valued at €4.00m on Transfermarkt, is reportedly the subject of advanced interest from the Athens club, with the likelihood of a deal currently rated at 71%. Camara’s contractual situation at Charleroi is unclear, with no fixed expiry date listed, fuelling suggestions that the Belgian side could be vulnerable to bids or risk losing him as a free agent in future if no agreement is reached.

Born on 30 March 2003 in Noisy-le-Grand, the 1.90m left-footed midfielder has developed a reputation in the Jupiler Pro League as a physically imposing screen in front of the defence. Operating primarily as a defensive midfielder and wearing the No 5 shirt for Charleroi, he has been a regular presence in the Belgian top flight.

In his most recent outing, a league fixture for Charleroi earlier this month, Camara featured in a tight contest that underlined his ball-winning attributes, helping his side maintain shape in a narrow scoreline despite late pressure from their opponents. That disciplined display is understood to have reinforced Panathinaikos’ interest as they look to bolster their Super League 1 midfield options.

Camara holds both French and Guinean nationality and has experience in Belgium’s top tier after joining Royal Charleroi SC, where he is also listed as part of the club’s professional squad structure. His profile – young, tall, left-footed and comfortable anchoring midfield – fits a modern holding role coveted across Europe.

With his market value still relatively modest at €4.00m and his long-term contract status unresolved, a move to Panathinaikos could prove a pivotal step in Camara’s career, potentially elevating his reputation on the European stage if the transfer does go through.
