Azzedine Ounahi: Morocco midfielder at Girona linked with Al-Ittihad move in Saudi Pro League switch
Morocco midfielder Azzedine Ounahi, currently at Girona, has been linked with a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad as the Spanish club prepare for life in the second tier. The 26-year-old central midfielder is under contract at Girona until 30 June 2030, meaning any deal would require the Saudis to negotiate a substantial fee.
Ounahi joined Girona from Marseille on 30 August 2025 in a €6m transfer and is currently valued at around €10m. His situation has shifted since Girona’s relegation from the top flight at the end of the 2025-26 campaign, a development that has inevitably alerted clubs able to offer top-division football and stronger financial terms.
The Casablanca-born midfielder has enjoyed one of the most high-profile years of his career. He was part of the Morocco side that won the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and then featured prominently at the 2026 World Cup, starting the majority of his country’s matches and scoring twice in six appearances.
At club level, Ounahi made 24 La Liga appearances for Girona last season, contributing five goals and three assists from midfield. That output, along with his international displays, has helped re-establish his reputation after earlier spells in France and Greece, including time at Angers, Marseille and on loan at Panathinaikos.
With four years still left on his deal and Girona now in LaLiga2, the Catalan club are under no pressure to sell, but Al-Ittihad’s interest is expected to test their resolve as they weigh up the financial benefits against losing one of their key midfielders.
