Al Ahly remains unwavering in its stance, resisting attempts to mediate a resolution for the club’s refusal to face Zamalek under local referees.
The Egyptian Football Association and Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, reached out to Al Ahly’s leadership, urging them to reconsider their decision ahead of Tuesday’s Egyptian Premier League showdown.
A source within Al Ahly told Kooora that the club’s board rejected all efforts to alter its position. “There was an attempt to bring in a Libyan refereeing team to officiate the match, given their neutrality, but the time constraints make it nearly impossible,” the source added.
Al Ahly had previously issued an official statement reiterating its demand for a postponement of the highly anticipated clash against Zamalek. The club warned that it would withdraw from the league if its request was denied.
If Al Ahly follows through with its threat, the consequences could be severe. Article 24 of the Egyptian League’s regulations outlines strict penalties for teams that refuse to participate in scheduled fixtures, potentially putting the club’s league campaign in jeopardy.
