Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Jasond Gonzalez hits seven goals in seven games in China

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Jasond Gonzalez has made an impressive start to life in China, scoring seven goals in his first seven appearances for Nantong Zhiyun FC.

The 27-year-old Colombian forward has quickly rediscovered the form that once made him a highly regarded striker, registering seven goals and one assist since joining the China League One club.

Gonzalez has also been named Man of the Match twice during his early run, underlining the impact he has made since arriving at Nantong Zhiyun.

His goals have helped the club establish itself near the top of the China League One table. Nantong Zhiyun currently sit third with 35 points after 19 matches.

The club will now hope Gonzalez can maintain his scoring form as they target a strong finish to the campaign.

Gonzalez spent the 2023/24 season with Kaizer Chiefs, where he found it difficult to meet expectations during his time with the Soweto giants.

His spell at Amakhosi was brought to an early end after the club decided to part ways with him. The Colombian’s departure followed a period in which he was unable to make the desired impact in front of goal.

Since leaving Kaizer Chiefs, Gonzalez has played for several clubs as he attempted to rebuild his career and regain his best form.

That search appears to have taken a positive turn in China. Gonzalez joined Nantong Zhiyun in July 2026 from Bolivian side Always Ready FC and has made an immediate impression in his new surroundings.

His latest numbers suggest the striker’s finishing ability remains intact, despite his difficult spell in South Africa. Seven goals in as many matches represents an excellent start, while his assist and two Man of the Match awards have added to his influence.

Nantong Zhiyun’s next fixture is against Dalian Huayi in the China League One on Sunday, 30 August. Gonzalez will be expected to lead the line again as the club attempts to remain in contention near the top of the standings.

Although his time with Kaizer Chiefs did not develop as either the player or club would have hoped, his early performances in China indicate that Gonzalez has found an environment in which he can once again play with confidence.

The Colombian forward now has the opportunity to build on his fast start and help Nantong Zhiyun finish the season strongly.
