Chelsea consider sensational Antonio Rudiger reunion ahead of summer 2027 transfer window
Chelsea are reportedly considering a move to bring Antonio Rudiger back to Stamford Bridge next summer as the German defender approaches the final months of his contract with Real Madrid.
According to Football Insider, the Blues could explore the possibility of re-signing the 33-year-old on a free transfer when his current deal expires in June 2027.
Rüdiger previously spent five years at Chelsea before leaving as a free agent in 2022 to join Real Madrid. He established himself as an important figure at the Spanish giants, winning several major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League.
The German international signed a one-year contract extension with Madrid in June 2026, keeping him at the Santiago Bernabeu until the summer of 2027.
However, uncertainty surrounding his long-term future has reportedly attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, with Chelsea emerging as a potential destination.
Xabi Alonso could play key role in Rüdiger’s return
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is reportedly among those who could favour bringing the experienced centre-back back to London.
According to Football Insider, former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown believes Rüdiger would provide valuable experience and leadership to Chelsea’s defensive department.
The Blues have reportedly conceded 15 goals in their opening eight Premier League matches, highlighting the need for greater defensive stability.
Rüdiger’s familiarity with Chelsea and his experience at the highest level could make him an attractive option for Alonso as he looks to strengthen his squad.
Tottenham also monitoring Rüdiger’s situation
Chelsea could face competition for the defender’s signature, with Tottenham Hotspur also reportedly interested in securing his services next summer.
Liverpool and Manchester United have previously been linked with the German, while clubs in Saudi Arabia are also monitoring his contractual situation.
However, no formal negotiations or agreement have been reported, and it remains unclear whether Rüdiger would consider leaving Real Madrid.
The defender’s future could become clearer as the 2026/27 campaign progresses, particularly if Madrid decide against offering him another contract extension.
For now, Chelsea’s interest remains a transfer possibility rather than an advanced deal, but a return to Stamford Bridge could offer Rüdiger an opportunity to reunite with his former club.
