Mamadou Sarr set for Real Sociedad loan as Chelsea plan long-term return
Mamadou Sarr is poised to leave Chelsea on loan for Real Sociedad, with the Spanish club offering the Senegalese defender the opportunity to play a more prominent role. The 20-year-old is expected to move to the Basque side without an option to buy, according to Foot Mercato.
Sarr only joined Chelsea in January after moving from Strasbourg, but his time in the first team has so far been limited to seven appearances. A temporary switch to Real Sociedad will allow him to continue his development in La Liga, where he is expected to benefit from more regular playing time.
Chelsea’s decision not to include a purchase clause means the club will retain full control over Sarr’s future. The move is intended to provide the young defender with valuable experience in Spain before he returns to London, with the longer-term aim of establishing himself at Chelsea.
Real Sociedad were not the only club interested in signing Sarr on loan. Al Hilal had also made contact in recent days and presented their project to the player. Sarr ultimately opted for a move to La Liga, with Xabi Alonso understood to have played an important part in persuading him to choose the Basque club.
The proposed transfer is therefore expected to be a temporary stage in Sarr’s career rather than a permanent departure from Chelsea. By retaining the defender’s registration and rejecting an option to buy, the Blues are protecting their investment while giving him the chance to gain experience away from Stamford Bridge.
Sarr remains under contract with Chelsea until June 2033, leaving him considerable time to develop. His current annual salary at the London club is reported to be €2,134,163, equivalent to 1,387,205,950 FCFA. His estimated market value stands at €22m.
Chelsea’s immediate focus, meanwhile, is on their second league match of the season, against Brighton. The match will take place as Sarr’s proposed move to Real Sociedad gathers pace, although the defender’s Chelsea future is expected to remain part of the club’s longer-term planning.
Betting company 1xbet lists Chelsea as favourites for the fixture, offering odds of 2.00 for a home victory. A draw is priced at 3.75, while Brighton are given odds of 3.60 to win. The source article also contains a promotional reference to downloading 1xbet.
For Sarr, the proposed loan would represent a chance to move quickly from a peripheral role at Chelsea into a setting where Real Sociedad believe he can make a greater contribution. For Chelsea, it offers a controlled route for the defender’s progression while keeping open the possibility of his eventual return and emergence as a first-team player.
