Ahmed Kouka: Hajduk Split linked with move for Al Ahly’s Egyptian midfielder

Egyptian defensive midfielder Ahmed Kouka of Al Ahly is being linked with a move to Croatian side Hajduk Split, with the 24-year-old’s future in Cairo increasingly under scrutiny.

Data from Transfermarkt indicates interest from the SuperSport HNL club, although the reported probability of the deal remains unclear (“?”) and there is no agreement in place. Kouka’s contract situation at Al Ahly is not publicly defined, with no expiry date listed, fuelling speculation that he could yet run down his deal and move on as a free agent if terms are not renewed.

Kouka, who wears the No 36 shirt for the Egyptian Premier League giants, is valued at €1.20m. That figure is expected to form a reference point in any negotiations, whether for a transfer fee now or as a benchmark for wages and signing-on fees should he become available on a free.

Born in Cairo on 4 July 2001, the 1.78m left-footed midfielder operates primarily as a holding player, protecting the back four and helping build from deep. He represents Al Ahly FC at domestic level and is listed with Egyptian nationality only.

In his most recent notable outing for Al Ahly in the Egyptian Premier League earlier this month, Kouka featured in a tight contest against a league rival, contributing with his usual screening work in a narrow, low-scoring match as Al Ahly continued their title push. His performances in these high-pressure fixtures have increased external interest, with clubs monitoring his development.

Hajduk Split, regular contenders in Croatia’s top flight, are understood to be assessing midfield options ahead of the new campaign, with Kouka fitting the profile of a young, resaleable asset.

If a move does materialise, a switch from Egypt’s record champions to one of Croatia’s historic clubs could prove a pivotal step in Kouka’s career, offering a European platform to enhance his reputation and test his potential at a higher-profile stage.
