Cameroon winger Nathan Ngoumou joins Nice in Ligue 1 comeback
Nathan Ngoumou has returned to Ligue 1 with Nice, four years after leaving Toulouse for Germany, as the 26-year-old looks to rebuild his career following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The Cameroon international completed a move to OGC Nice on Monday, signing a two-year contract after arriving as a free agent from Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Despite still having a contract with the German club until 2027, Gladbach will be entitled to 10% of any future transfer fee involving the winger.
Ngoumou’s move to Nice represents an opportunity to restart his career in France after a difficult period in Germany. His previous season was severely disrupted by injury, with an Achilles tendon rupture in April 2025 leaving him with very little football.
The setback meant the 26-year-old effectively endured a lost campaign, making his return to Ligue 1 an important new beginning.
Before joining Nice, Ngoumou used the summer period to work with the club’s fitness coach as he continued his efforts to regain his physical condition.
The winger is now back in the French top flight, where he previously made his name with Toulouse.
Ngoumou left Toulouse in 2022 after helping the club secure promotion to Ligue 1. That summer, he completed his move to Borussia Mönchengladbach and began a new chapter in the Bundesliga.
Interestingly, his German adventure started against his new club. Gladbach faced Nice in August 2022, shortly after Ngoumou had made the move from Toulouse.
Four years later, the Cameroonian is back in France, this time wearing the colours of Nice.
Ngoumou has earned two international caps for Cameroon and will now look to use his return to Ligue 1 as a platform to regain consistency after a frustrating period affected by injury.
For Nice, the signing represents an opportunity to give a player with previous Ligue 1 experience another chance to demonstrate his qualities. For Ngoumou, it is the latest step in a comeback that began after his serious Achilles injury.
His two-year contract gives him the opportunity to establish himself at the club and put the difficulties of his recent past behind him.
The move also brings his career full circle, from Toulouse and the start of his German experience to a return to France with Nice.
After a season largely lost to injury, Ngoumou now has the chance to focus on getting back to regular football and showing what he can offer at the highest level of French football.
