Police investigate attempted break-in at Lamine Yamal’s home after Spain reach World Cup final
Spain forward Lamine Yamal was the target of an attempted robbery just hours after helping his country secure a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final with a 2-0 victory over France.
Spanish media reported that two suspected intruders were spotted on security cameras at the teenager’s luxury home before fleeing the scene after being detected by security personnel.
The attempted break-in came on the same day Spain advanced to the World Cup final, where they will face either England or Argentina.
Security staff foil attempted break-in
According to the reports, a security guard monitoring the property noticed two individuals perched on a wall surrounding Yamal’s residence.
The suspects escaped before the player’s private security team could alert the police.
The property, located around 20 minutes from central Barcelona in the upscale municipality of Esplugues, previously belonged to former Spain defender Gerard Piqué and Colombian singer Shakira.
Valued at around €11 million (approximately MAD117.15 million), the five-level residence spans 3,800 square metres and includes two private swimming pools, a football pitch, a padel court, a gym and a recording studio.
Investigation under way
Spain’s Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) has launched an investigation into the attempted burglary.
Authorities believe the incident may be linked to at least two other robberies reported in the same affluent neighbourhood.
Reports suggest some organised criminal groups travel across Europe targeting the homes of high-profile footballers in search of expensive jewellery and luxury watches. Yamal has previously showcased both his jewellery collection and his home on social media.
While the investigation continues, the Spain international is expected to turn his full attention back to football as his side prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
