Trabzonspor part company with Fatih Tekke after difficult run of results

Trabzonspor have announced the departure of manager Fatih Tekke by mutual agreement after a series of disappointing results, including a heavy defeat by Ferencvaros in the Europa League qualifying play-off.

The Turkish club confirmed the decision in an official statement, saying vice-president Serkan Kılıc had met Tekke to assess the team’s current situation and discuss its future direction.

“Based on the discussions that took place, we agreed with Fatih Tekke to terminate the contract by mutual consent, in line with the interests of Trabzonspor and our future-oriented objectives,” the club said.

Tekke had spent 18 months in charge of Trabzonspor. During that period, the club said he had made a significant contribution both on and off the pitch, helping to develop players who joined the squad while also delivering important sporting and financial gains.

The club also credited the 48-year-old with helping Trabzonspor win the Turkish Cup, a success which it said had secured him another place in the club’s history.

“Fatih Tekke added important values to Trabzonspor during the 18 months he spent in the position,” the statement added. “In addition to his contribution to the development of the players who joined our squad during this period, he brought significant gains to the club both in sporting and economic terms. He also contributed to adding the Turkish Cup to our museum, which means writing his name into Trabzonspor history once again.”

Trabzonspor said Tekke had made clear that he would never accept his presence becoming harmful to the club in any way.

“We reached a mutual understanding with our coach, who expressed that he would never accept his presence causing any harm to Trabzonspor in any way, that drawing up a new road map while keeping the club’s interests above everything else had become unavoidable,” the club said.

The decision follows Trabzonspor’s latest domestic setback, a 2-1 defeat by Amedspor in the third round of the Turkish league. Mohamed Salah played the full match and scored Trabzonspor’s only goal.

The club had also suffered a 4-0 loss to Hungarian side Ferencvaros in the play-off round for the Europa League. The sequence of results ultimately led to Tekke’s departure.

Trabzonspor concluded its statement by thanking the manager for his work and commitment during his time at the club.

“We thank our coach for the effort and work he has put in for Trabzonspor so far, for his dedicated efforts, the successes he achieved and the value he added to the club,” it said.
