Cameroonian central midfielder Danel Dongmo of Romanian side Petrolul Ploiesti is being linked with a summer move to Portuguese club Nacional, with the 25-year-old’s situation attracting interest as uncertainty persists over his contract status in Romania.
Dongmo, born in Douala on 31 January 2001 and standing at 1.82m, is listed with a market value of €450,000, a figure that could tempt Nacional as they explore relatively low-cost midfield reinforcements from the Romanian SuperLiga. The move remains at rumour stage, with the reported probability of a deal currently unspecified (“?”) and no agreement announced between the clubs.
The left-footed midfielder, who wears the number 5 shirt for Petrolul and operates primarily as a central midfielder, has been a regular presence in the Romanian top flight. With his contract details and expiry date not publicly clarified, there is speculation that Petrolul could face a choice between negotiating a fee now or risking Dongmo running down his deal and potentially leaving as a free agent in a future window.
Dongmo’s recent performances in Romania have underpinned the interest. In his latest notable outing for Petrolul in the SuperLiga – a league fixture in 2026 against domestic opposition – he featured in a competitive encounter that finished level on the night, contributing with his usual work rate and positional discipline in midfield, even if he did not register a goal or assist.
Having built his senior career in Europe with Petrolul Ploiesti, a move to Liga Portugal would represent a new step in Dongmo’s development and a chance to enhance his reputation beyond Romania. If Nacional decide to firm up their interest, the proposed transfer could offer the Cameroonian a platform to elevate his profile and test himself in a different tactical and technical environment in Portuguese football.
