Ireland‑Nigeria centre-forward Gbemi Arubi of Dundalk FC is being linked with a summer switch to League One side Huddersfield Town, with the 22-year-old reportedly on the English club’s radar as a low-cost attacking option.
Arubi, who stands at 1.87m and wears the No 9 shirt for Dundalk, is valued at around €200,000 according to Transfermarkt, a fee that would represent a modest outlay for Huddersfield as they look to reinforce their forward line. His current contract situation at Oriel Park is unclear, with no expiry date listed, fuelling suggestions that the striker could be attainable or even move on a free agent basis if his deal is close to its end.
The move is currently rated with an unspecified probability (“?”) on Transfermarkt’s rumours index, underlining that talks, if any, are at an early and speculative stage rather than advanced negotiations.
Born on 26 May 2004, Arubi has represented both Ireland and Nigeria at youth level eligibility, and is listed with dual nationalities of Ireland and Nigeria. Comfortable leading the line as an out-and-out centre-forward and able to use both feet, he has emerged as one of Dundalk’s more intriguing attacking prospects in the League of Ireland Premier Division.
Recent league action has kept him in the shop window. In Dundalk’s latest outing in the Premier Division – a tight home fixture earlier this month which finished level after a low-scoring encounter – Arubi featured as a central attacking presence, working the channels and offering an outlet against physically strong opposition, even if he was unable to add to his personal goal tally on the night.
Having developed his senior career at Dundalk, a move to Huddersfield would represent Arubi’s first step into English football. If the transfer materialises, it could provide a significant platform for the young forward to enhance his reputation, test himself in League One and potentially position himself for future moves higher up the pyramid.
