George Davies: SW Bregenz linked with move for Sierra Leone winger from SKU Amstetten

Sierra Leone left midfielder George Davies of SKU Amstetten is being linked with a switch to Austrian 2. Liga rivals SW Bregenz, with the 29-year-old potentially available as a free agent due to the lack of a recorded contract expiry date at his current club.

The former Sierra Leone youth international, valued at €125k on Transfermarkt, is the subject of fresh speculation after rumours surfaced on 17 June 2026 suggesting Bregenz are exploring a deal. The reported probability of the move remains unclear, listed only as “?”, underlining that talks are at an early stage and no agreement has yet been reached.

Davies, who was born in Freetown on 16 November 1996 and stands at 1.69m, has been operating on the left side of midfield for Amstetten in Austria’s second tier. A left-footer who wears the No 11 shirt, he has built a reputation as a direct wide player capable of stretching defences and providing width in transition.

Recent performances for Amstetten in the 2. Liga have kept him on the radar of domestic rivals, with his most recent outing – a league fixture earlier this month in which Amstetten faced a fellow second-tier opponent, ending in a tight scoreline – again showcasing his work rate down the flank and contribution in wide areas, even if he did not add to his goal or assist tally.

Davies has spent the bulk of his professional career in European leagues and now represents Amstetten in Austria, having previously played his way through a series of clubs on the continent before settling in the 2. Liga. His situation is being closely watched because the absence of a defined contract end date raises the prospect that he could move without a transfer fee if his deal is winding down.

Any switch to SW Bregenz would keep Davies in the same division but offer a fresh environment as he heads into what should be the peak years of his career. If the move materialises, it could be a pivotal step for the Sierra Leonean as he looks to enhance his reputation in Austria and push for a new chapter at 29.
