Al-Ahly Club has handed down financial sanctions to its players following the team’s elimination from the CAF Champions League.

The Egyptian giants bowed out of the continental competition after losing the second leg of the quarterfinals to Tunisian side Esperance in Cairo last Saturday.

Club officials confirmed that 15% will be deducted from the annual salaries of all first-team players, a measure aimed at enforcing discipline and holding the squad accountable for failing to meet expectations in Africa’s premier club tournament—a competition in which Al-Ahly boasts a storied history.

Al-Ahly had fallen 1-0 in the first leg at Rades Stadium but managed a 3-2 win in the return fixture at Cairo International Stadium. Despite the second-leg victory, the aggregate score was insufficient to secure a place in the semifinals.

With continental ambitions curtailed, Al-Ahly now shift focus to the domestic league, preparing to face Ceramica Cleopatra on Friday, April 3.
