CAS reportedly "freezes" CAF's decision on AFCON 2025 winner after receiving Senegal’s complaint

Fresh uncertainty has emerged over the winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title following reports that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has accepted a complaint from the Senegalese Football Federation and temporarily halted a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

According to a source, the court has issued a provisional measure suspending the implementation of a ruling made by CAF’s Appeals Committee. If accurate, the move would place the tournament outcome in a state of legal uncertainty until a final verdict is delivered.

Despite the growing attention, there has been no official confirmation from the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Neither the acceptance of the appeal nor any directive to freeze CAF’s decision has been formally announced, leaving the situation clouded in speculation.

The dispute stems from CAF’s recent decision to award the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 title to Morocco national team after Senegal national team were stripped of the honour. The ruling followed Senegal’s withdrawal during the final, a move that led to the match being forfeited with a 3-0 result.

In response, Senegal escalated the matter by lodging a formal appeal with CAS, seeking to overturn the decision and secure a suspension of its enforcement while the case is reviewed. The development has intensified tensions between the involved parties, with both sides holding firm positions.

The controversy has also exposed divisions within CAF, as reports point to conflicting accounts surrounding the Appeals Committee’s internal processes. Allegations that some members were absent from key deliberations have further fueled debate about the legitimacy of the decision.

With no official communication from CAS, the matter continues to unfold, and the final outcome will depend on the tribunal’s ruling in the days ahead.
