‘Everyone wants him to stay’ – Leny Yoro urges Man United to keep Casemiro
Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has led a public plea for the club to reconsider the departure of Casemiro, insisting the squad is desperate for the veteran midfielder to stay beyond the end of the season.
Speaking after Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday, where Casemiro scored the opening goal, Yoro highlighted the Brazilian’s indispensable role in the locker room.
Despite the 34-year-old’s contract being set to expire this June, Yoro argued that his elite winning pedigree remains a vital asset for a developing team.
“Everyone wanted him to stay, he’s a player really important for us,” Yoro told reporters. “Even in the dressing room, every day, he has the experience that no one else has in the team. He won everything, so this helped us a lot in the games and even outside the pitch.”
Casemiro’s seventh goal of the campaign—a trademark glancing header—was met with chants of “one more year” from the Old Trafford faithful.
The performance underscored a remarkable resurgence for the former Real Madrid man under interim manager Michael Carrick.
However, the club’s current stance remains firm. It was mutually agreed in January that United would not trigger the one-year extension in his contract, paving the way for him to leave as a free agent this summer.
Yoro’s comments reflect a growing sentiment within the squad regarding the team’s veteran leadership. The young defender also voiced his hope that Harry Maguire, who is in a similar contract situation, would be offered a new deal.
Yoro credited both players for providing tactical guidance that has been crucial to the club’s recent climb to third in the Premier League table.
While Carrick acknowledged Casemiro’s “terrific” impact and leadership, he suggested that the prior decision to part ways provides a level of clarity that is unlikely to be reversed.
