Chelsea F.C. head coach Liam Rosenior has revealed the club is preparing to adjust its transfer strategy this summer, with a renewed focus on adding experience to one of the youngest squads in elite European football.

Chelsea’s rebuilding project in recent seasons has prioritised youth, producing a squad with an average age of just 23.5 years. While the long term vision has centred on developing emerging talent, Rosenior acknowledged the next stage of the project will require greater balance, particularly in high pressure competitions.

Speaking about plans for the upcoming transfer window, the Chelsea boss suggested the club is already discussing ways to strengthen the squad with players capable of bringing leadership and experience to a young group still learning at the highest level.

“We are building experience and this summer you will see. You see this summer,” Rosenior said.

The manager, however, stressed that his immediate priority remains finishing the current campaign strongly rather than becoming distracted by early transfer speculation.

“Right now we have these conversations, but my job is to make sure we finish the season as strong as possible. Talking about transfer plans in March is not the smartest.”

Chelsea’s youthful core has shown flashes of promise throughout the season but has also faced challenges in big matches, including a demanding recent encounter against Paris Saint‑Germain F.C.. Rosenior believes those experiences are part of the development process for a team still finding its identity.

“Wednesday night (against PSG) was difficult, but it was a great learning experience for the group and me, and if you learn from your experiences, you grow and get better,” he explained.

Despite calls from some observers for the club to recruit older players, Rosenior emphasised that experience cannot be measured purely by age. He pointed to the rapid development of younger players who already possess significant international exposure.

“You always need balance. We talk about age, but age does not always mean experience. Andrey Santos is 21, but he has already played for Brazil and been a captain. It’s not just about age.”

Ultimately, Rosenior insisted the objective remains clear as the club prepares for the next phase of its rebuild.

“The idea is to win – this is something I, the sports directors and the ownership agree on.”
