Antoine Semenyo becomes third Ghanaian to win Premier League Player of the Month award
Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has made history by becoming only the third Ghanaian international to be named the Premier League Player of the Month.
The 26-year-old secured the prestigious award for February 2026 following an explosive start to his career at the Etihad Stadium after his £64 million January move from AFC Bournemouth.
By claiming the trophy, Semenyo joins an elite group of Ghanaian football icons. He follows in the footsteps of legendary striker Tony Yeboah, who won the award twice for Leeds United in March and September 1995, and Andre Ayew, who earned the honour with Swansea City in August 2015.
Semenyo’s achievement ends an 11-year wait for a Ghanaian player to be recognised as the league’s top performer in a single month.
The Black Stars attacker enjoyed a prolific February, netting three goals and providing one assist in five appearances.
His clinical strikes against Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham, and Leeds United were instrumental in maintaining City’s unbeaten run during the month.
Beyond his national milestone, Semenyo also became the first Manchester City player other than Erling Haaland to win the award since 2021.
Reflecting on the achievement, Semenyo expressed his pride in joining such a select group of his countrymen.
While celebrating the personal landmark, he remained focused on the team’s ambitions, stating his desire to continue improving as City enters the final, decisive period of the Premier League season.
“My focus now is on continuing to improve and helping City to achieve the best possible results. We have so much to play for and I am really excited about this final period of the season.”
