Nigeria forward Akor Adams happy to end goal drought as Sevilla share spoils with Rayo Vallecano

Nigerian striker Akor Adams has expressed relief and satisfaction after finally ending a five-match goal drought during Sevilla FC’s 1–1 draw against Rayo Vallecano in a La Liga encounter on Sunday.

The match, played at the iconic Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium, saw Adams step up for the Andalusian club with an important goal that helped Sevilla secure a valuable point. The strike not only contributed to the team’s result but also brought an end to the Super Eagles forward’s recent run of matches without finding the back of the net.

Adams had been searching for a goal in his previous five appearances, a dry spell that had drawn attention given his role as a central striker. His latest effort therefore came as both a personal breakthrough and a timely contribution for Sevilla as the La Liga season approaches its decisive phase.

Speaking to Sevilla’s official website after the match, the Nigerian international emphasized that while scoring goals is part of his responsibility, the team’s success remains his main priority.

“For me, the most important thing is winning with Sevilla. I work hard every day to win matches,” Adams said.

The 24-year-old forward also highlighted the importance of collective effort within the squad, noting that individual achievements matter less than the team securing crucial points.

“Yes, scoring goals is my job. But at this stage of the season, it doesn’t matter if Kike scores or if Lucien scores. In the end, we’re a team. We need to get points,” he added.

Despite ending his drought, Adams admitted he still expects more from himself in front of goal.

“But seven goals… I think I should have scored more. So I’m grateful to God, but I’m satisfied now,” he concluded.

Adams’ determination and humility reflect the mindset of a player eager to contribute more as Sevilla push to climb the La Liga table. His goal against Rayo Vallecano could prove to be a turning point, restoring confidence and momentum for the Nigerian striker as the season heads toward its final stretch.

With Sevilla aiming for a strong finish in the league, fans will be hoping Adams’ latest strike marks the beginning of another productive scoring run for the Super Eagles forward.
