Ezzalzouli’s eight-shot display earns Champions League statistical honour

Abde Ezzalzouli shared the lead for shots taken during the third round of the UEFA Champions League league phase after helping Real Betis secure a 1-0 victory over Feyenoord.

The Morocco international attempted eight shots in the match at La Cartuja on Wednesday, contributing to Real Betis’ third win in the competition. His total put him level with Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy, who had the same number of attempts against Sabah of Azerbaijan.

The figures, published by statistics provider Squawka, placed Ezzalzouli and Guirassy at the top of the list for the round. Emiliano Buendia of Aston Villa and Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay followed with seven shots each.

Sporting Lisbon forward Luis Suarez recorded six attempts, while Donyell Malen, Fabian Ruiz, Alexis Mac Allister and Rayan Cherki each had five. Florian Wirtz completed the top 10 with four shots during the round.

Guirassy combined his high volume of attempts with two goals in Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 victory away to Sabah. The Guinea striker’s brace continued his strong record in the Champions League.

Since the beginning of the 2024-25 season, no player has scored more Champions League braces than Guirassy. He has recorded two during that period, matching the highest total by any player in the competition.
