Mahamadou Nagida played a decisive part in both goals as Stade Rennais earned a 2-2 draw against Juventus, delivering an impressive performance from the left flank.
The Cameroon international was one of Rennes’ most influential players, combining relentless running with attacking intent and defensive commitment. His pace, movement and delivery repeatedly put the Italian defence under pressure.
Nagida made himself available from the opening stages, providing width and running in behind as Rennes looked to build attacks. His willingness to drive forward quickly turned the left side into one of the French club’s main outlets.
His most direct contribution came in the move for Rennes’ equaliser. A cross from Nagida found Al Tamari, who finished to bring the visitors back into the match.
The young full-back continued to threaten after that moment. He tried two particularly dangerous volleys, with one effort saved by Vicario and another narrowly missing the post.
Nagida was also involved in the incident that led to Rennes’ second goal. His technical quality helped create another dangerous situation before his volley was blocked by the hand of Douglas Luiz. The resulting penalty was converted by Boulaye Dia, allowing Rennes to take the lead in a fiercely contested game.
He maintained the same intensity after the interval, continuing to make forward runs and deliver crosses. One of those moves helped create an opportunity for Thomasson, while Nagida also remained involved in the defensive work required to protect his team’s advantage.
His all-round contribution was reflected in the match statistics. Nagida played all 90 minutes, touched the ball 66 times and completed 29 of his 35 passes. He also created two key passes.
He completed two of five attempted crosses and two of four dribbles. Defensively, Nagida won five of his eight ground duels, made two interceptions and recorded six recoveries. He also made four clearances and seven defensive interventions.
Those figures underline the extent of his influence. Nagida was not simply an attacking presence on the left; he contributed when Rennes had to defend and attempt to preserve their lead.
The performance continued what has been a steady rise for the young Cameroon player. Only a few years into his career at the highest level, Nagida is gaining confidence with each appearance and showing that he can establish himself in Rennes’ system.
His display against Juventus offered another example of that progress. His energy, direct running and ability to affect the game in the final third are making him an increasingly important part of the Rennes team.
Rennes were quickly behind but responded strongly, turning the match in their favour before withstanding Juventus’ comeback to secure a valuable point. The result reflected the visitors’ determination, while Nagida’s performance highlighted the growing importance of a player who is beginning to make a significant impact for the club.
