Tanzanian outfit Singida Black Stars clear Nigeria goalkeeper Amas Obasogie over match-fixing allegations
Nigerian international Amas Obasogie has been cleared of all match-fixing allegations as Singida Black Stars FC lift the three-month suspension imposed on the goalkeeper.
The decision brings an end to a tense period for the Nigerian shot-stopper, who faced scrutiny over his involvement in key matches.
Obasogie had been under investigation following concerns about two games: Singida Black Stars’ CAF Confederation Cup clash against Pamba Jiji FC and a Tanzania NBC Premier League fixture against Namungo FC. The suspicions led the club to take immediate disciplinary action while a formal review was conducted.
After a comprehensive evaluation by the club’s management and disciplinary committee, no evidence of wrongdoing was found. The club’s statement confirmed that Obasogie’s suspension had been lifted with immediate effect.
“This decision follows a careful and thorough review of the incidents in question. We are satisfied that no misconduct occurred,” the club said in a press release.
Obasogie has since spoken publicly about the ordeal, expressing regret for the disruption caused and emphasizing his commitment to rebuilding trust among fans, teammates, and club stakeholders.
“I am grateful to Singida Black Stars for their thorough review and for clearing my name,” Obasogie said. “I deeply regret the worry this situation caused. Moving forward, I will focus on improving my performances and proving my dedication to the club and its supporters.”
The goalkeeper’s return is expected to bolster Singida Black Stars’ squad as they prepare for the remainder of the Tanzania NBC Premier League season. Obasogie’s reinstatement also sends a clear message about due process and fairness, reinforcing the club’s commitment to integrity and transparency.
Fans and football analysts alike will now be watching closely to see how Obasogie bounces back between the posts and whether he can regain his form following a difficult few months.
