Report claims Vladimir Petković set for improved Algeria contract
Algeria coach Vladimir Petković could receive a significant salary increase, according to reports, in a move that would further underline his status as the highest-paid national team manager in Africa.
French-language outlet La Gazette du Fennec says discussions are centred on revising the 62-year-old’s current terms as he continues his tenure with Algeria national football team.
Petković is contracted until after the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to run from 11 June to 19 July in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The report indicates his monthly salary, currently estimated at about €135,000, could rise to roughly €200,000.
Such an adjustment would create a wider financial gap between Petković and other leading national team coaches on the continent.
Among those frequently cited for comparison is Walid Regragui, head coach of Morocco national football team, whose unofficial earnings are reported at €110,000 per month.
Elsewhere, Hugo Broos in South Africa and Emerse Faé in Ivory Coast are both said to receive around €75,000 monthly in their respective roles.
Speculation about Petković’s future intensified days earlier when rumours emerged of a possible contract extension offer.
His spell in charge has been framed as meeting expectations, with Algeria qualifying for the World Cup and reaching the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after a seven-year wait.
Walid Sadi, president of the Algerian Football Federation, is reported to have held talks with the coach.
Petković is said to have requested additional time to consider the proposal, leaving the situation open while negotiations continue.
For Algeria, any revised agreement would signal continued faith in the current technical direction, as the national side prepares for upcoming international commitments under Petković’s leadership.
