Pape Diong swaps Strasbourg for Westerlo in Belgian move
Senegal midfielder Pape Diong has joined KVC Westerlo from Strasbourg, completing a move to the Belgian Jupiler Pro League club at the age of 20.
Diong, who plays as a defensive midfielder, has signed a contract with Westerlo running until 30 June 2030. The 1.93m player is right-footed and was born in Dakar, making the switch his first move outside France since arriving in European football.
He leaves Strasbourg after returning from a loan spell at USL Dunkerque during the 2025-26 season. Diong spent that campaign with the Ligue 2 side before going back to Strasbourg at the end of June.
The midfielder joined Strasbourg from Senegalese club AF Darou Salam in July 2024. He then moved temporarily to Dunkerque a year later, gaining experience away from his parent club before heading back to Strasbourg ahead of the new season.
Diong’s arrival takes him into Belgian football at a club competing in the Jupiler Pro League. His move comes after he had not made a Ligue 1 appearance for Strasbourg during the opening fixture recorded for the 2026-27 campaign.
Westerlo have now secured the services of the Senegal international, with Diong’s contract in Belgium lasting until 30 June 2030.
