St Pauli bring in 20-year-old winger Youssoupha Niang from Cologne

German-Senegalese winger Youssoupha Niang has joined St Pauli from 1. FC Koln on a season-long loan, strengthening the 2. Bundesliga club’s attacking options for the 2026-27 campaign.

The 20-year-old right winger completed the move on 27 August 2026 and will remain at St Pauli until 30 June 2027, when the loan is scheduled to end. He joins from a Koln side competing in the Bundesliga.

Niang was born in Bonn on 25 March 2006 and represents both German and Senegalese footballing heritage. Standing at 1.85m, he is naturally right-footed and operates primarily from the right side of the attack.

The move takes him into a new league after he progressed through Koln’s youth system. Niang joined 1. FC Koln’s youth ranks from Bonner SC in 2019, later moving through the club’s under-17 and under-19 teams before stepping up to Koln II in July 2025. He moved into the first-team setup in January 2026.

His most notable achievement at youth level came with Koln Under-19, who won the German Under-19 Bundesliga title during the 2024-25 season. That success formed part of his progression towards senior football and preceded his move to St Pauli.

Niang’s arrival comes as St Pauli prepare for the demands of the new campaign in Germany’s second tier. His recorded competitive involvement at the start of the 2026-27 season came in the DFB-Pokal, although he had not made an appearance in the competition before completing the switch.

The loan gives Niang a spell away from Koln while keeping his long-term registration with the Bundesliga club. The agreement runs through the end of June 2027, with the next scheduled move in his career being his return to 1. FC Koln at the conclusion of the loan.

Niang has therefore completed a temporary transfer from 1. FC Koln to St Pauli.
