Cameroonian international, who plies his trade for Napoli André-Frank Zambo Anguissa is facing a fresh setback in his recovery, with head coach Antonio Conte confirming that the Cameroonian international has developed a new and troubling medical issue that could keep him sidelined for an extended period.
Anguissa has been out of action since November 2025 after suffering a muscle injury, and hopes of an imminent return have repeatedly been raised in recent weeks.
However, despite optimistic reports suggesting he was nearing full fitness, the situation has taken an unexpected turn, casting serious doubt over his short-term future with the Italian giants.
Napoli’s technical staff have confirmed that the original muscle injury has fully healed, but the 30-year-old has now been struck by a separate and more complex problem. Speaking at a press conference ahead of Napoli’s Italian Cup quarter-final clash against Como, Conte revealed that Anguissa is currently battling an unresolved back issue that has left the medical team searching for answers.
“Anguissa has a back problem, and at the moment the doctors can’t solve it,” Conte admitted, underlining the uncertainty surrounding the midfielder’s condition.
Fresh reports in Italy has shed further light on the situation, suggesting that Anguissa is suffering from a lumbar hernia. The condition is said to be causing nerve-related discomfort and reflex issues in his leg, significantly restricting his mobility and making it impossible for him to train with the rest of the squad.
As a result, Anguissa remains confined to individual treatment and rehabilitation, with no clear timeline for his return to competitive action. The development represents a major blow for Napoli, who have been without one of their most influential midfielders for months and were counting on his return during a decisive phase of the season.
With the back problem proving difficult to diagnose and manage, fears are growing that Anguissa could face a prolonged spell on the sidelines, further complicating Napoli’s plans both domestically and in cup competition.
