Liverpool suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Manchester City on Sunday in the English Premier League, with Egyptian star Mohamed Salah featuring throughout the contest but failing to make an impact on the scoresheet.
The Reds’ winger was unable to register either a goal or an assist, extending a difficult run against the league’s top sides this season. His quiet outing against City added to a growing pattern of frustration in high-profile fixtures.
Earlier in the campaign, Salah failed to contribute during Liverpool’s narrow 1-0 victory over Arsenal and was again kept off the scoresheet in defeats to Chelsea and Manchester United, both of which ended 2-1.
Liverpool also endured a heavy 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the first round, a match in which Salah was completely absent. He similarly missed clashes against Tottenham and Arsenal due to his involvement with the Egyptian national team.
Sunday’s defeat marked Salah’s return to action against elite opposition, but the outcome remained unchanged as Liverpool once again fell short, with the forward continuing his barren run against the Premier League’s giants this season.
This spell stands in contrast to Salah’s long-standing reputation for delivering in big games. Over the years, he has scored 13 goals against Manchester City across all competitions, netted 16 times against Tottenham, recorded 11 goals versus Arsenal, added eight against Chelsea, and struck 16 goals against Manchester United.
