Manchester City defender Marc Guehi delivered a standout performance at Anfield on Sunday evening, earning the Man of the Match award despite being subjected to sustained boos during City’s 2-1 Premier League victory over Liverpool in the 25th round of the season.
From the opening whistle, the English-Ivorian centre-back was targeted by sections of the home crowd, with jeers greeting almost every touch of the ball. The hostile atmosphere, however, appeared to have little effect on Guehi, who remained composed and assured throughout the contest.
Over the full 90 minutes, Guehi produced a commanding display at the heart of City’s defence, reading the game well and handling Liverpool’s attacking threats with maturity. His calmness under pressure and consistency across the match ultimately earned him individual recognition as the standout performer on the night.

The 25-year-old only joined Manchester City during the most recent winter transfer window after completing a move from Crystal Palace.
His arrival followed long-standing interest from Liverpool, who had identified him as a potential replacement amid expectations of Ibrahima Konate’s departure.
Liverpool had previously submitted a £35 million bid for Guehi last summer, and the defender had already begun medical checks before the transfer collapsed. Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish ultimately called off the deal after the club failed to secure a suitable replacement in time.
The Reds made another attempt to revive negotiations in January, but by then Guehi had committed to Manchester City, who completed the signing for a reported £20 million.
His Man of the Match display at Anfield served as a timely reminder of the quality that attracted interest from both clubs.
