AO Egaleo have completed the signing of Canada–Morocco midfielder Rida Zouhir on a free transfer from his unattached status, adding a 22-year-old central midfielder with North American top-flight and USL Championship experience to their squad. The deal sees the former CF Montréal and D.C. United player join the Greek side after a brief spell without a club, with his move registered to begin on 2026-02-08; contract expiry is currently undisclosed.
Zouhir arrives in Egaleo with a current market value listed at €300k, but without any transfer fee involved after his departure from D.C. United at the start of 2026 left him a free agent. AO Egaleo therefore secure a player with MLS and US lower-division pedigree at no cost, an efficient piece of business in the context of Super League 2 finances and squad-building constraints.
The move also confirms a new chapter abroad for the Montreal-born midfielder, who now continues his career in Greece rather than in Canada or Morocco. The transfer places him in Super League 2, where AO Egaleo compete domestically, marking a shift from his previous stints in North American leagues with CF Montréal in Major League Soccer, San Antonio FC and Birmingham Legion FC in the USL Championship, and then D.C. United in MLS.
Prior to becoming a free agent, Zouhir’s recent club trajectory has been marked by loans designed to accelerate his development. After stepping up from CF Montréal U23 to the first team in late 2020, he was loaned to San Antonio FC during the 2022–23 campaign, returning when that loan ended in late 2023. A similar pattern followed in 2024, with a loan move from CF Montréal to Birmingham Legion FC before another recall later that year. In early 2025, Montréal transferred him to D.C. United, where he remained through the 2025 season before his contract ended at the turn of the year.
Throughout this period, his market value peaked at around €500k during his time with CF Montréal and San Antonio FC, before stabilising at €300k across late 2024 and 2025, including his final valuation update at D.C. United. That profile underlines how he is regarded as a promising, if still developing, central midfielder capable of operating in the heart of the pitch with his preferred right foot.
Internationally, Zouhir’s dual nationality links him to both Canada and Morocco, widening the potential interest around his career moves. Although currently tied only to his club, his progression from CF Montréal’s U23 side into professional senior football has been watched closely in North America, where his switch to European football with AO Egaleo will now be followed from afar. Fans of his previous clubs, particularly in Montreal, have seen him move through multiple environments in a relatively short span, and this confirmed transfer to Greece represents his first venture into European domestic competition.
Standing at 1.78m and established centrally, Zouhir gives AO Egaleo another option in midfield as they compete in Super League 2, with his North American experience offering a different tactical and physical profile to many of his new teammates. Having navigated loans, recalls, and a recent period without a club, the confirmed free transfer to Egaleo offers him both stability and a fresh platform in a European league, with his contract now officially active from 2026-02-08 and set to define the next phase of his career.
