Aston Villa secure Aaron Wan-Bissaka deal to bolster right-back options
Aaron Wan-Bissaka will remain in the Premier League after joining Aston Villa from relegated West Ham on a season-long loan.
The 28-year-old right-back was determined to avoid dropping into the Championship following West Ham’s relegation and has secured a move to one of England’s leading clubs. The agreement includes an option for Aston Villa to buy him for 21m euros, while the Birmingham club has described the arrangement as featuring a conditional obligation to purchase.
Wan-Bissaka will add to his Premier League experience at Villa, having already made 233 appearances in the competition. Those matches have come during spells with Crystal Palace, Manchester United and West Ham, where he has spent the past two seasons.
The move will also give the DR Congo international the opportunity to return to the Champions League. He has previously played 15 matches in Europe’s premier club competition.
For Aston Villa, the signing is part of a significant reshaping of their defensive wide areas. The club recently brought in Matteo Ruggeri to strengthen the left side and have now added further competition on the right, where Wan-Bissaka is expected to challenge Matty Cash for a regular starting place.
Villa’s recruitment also helps cover the temporary departures of two young right-sided defenders, Kosta Nedeljkovic and Andres Garcia, who have both left on loan.
Wan-Bissaka, who was born in London, is currently valued at 15m euros by Transfermarkt. His annual salary at West Ham was listed as 5,487,849 euros, equivalent to 3,567,101,850 FCFA. His contract with the Hammers is due to run until 2031.
The defender began his senior career at Crystal Palace before moving to Manchester United, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most prominent one-on-one defenders. His two seasons at West Ham preceded the latest move, which allows him to continue playing in the top flight despite his former club’s relegation.
Aston Villa’s first league match of the season is against Brighton, with the fixture due to take place soon. Betting company 1xBet lists Brighton as the 2.20 favourite, with a draw priced at 3.50 and an Aston Villa victory at 2.95.
Wan-Bissaka’s arrival gives Aston Villa another experienced option as they prepare for a campaign that will include domestic football and Champions League commitments. It also ensures that the full-back remains in the Premier League while giving Villa additional depth during a period of change in their defensive positions.
