Chelsea are reportedly nearing an agreement to sign Strasbourg’s 20-year-old Moroccan right winger Gessime Yassine, with negotiations said to have made significant progress.

Christophe Lollichon, a former Chelsea goalkeeping coach, indicated in an interview with Ouest-France that the player was getting closer to a move to the London club. The discussions have not yet been officially confirmed, however.

Yassine joined Strasbourg from Dunkerque at the beginning of the year in a transfer reported to be worth 7 million euros. He has since made 25 appearances for the Alsace club, scoring two goals and providing three assists.

His attacking displays have attracted Chelsea’s attention as the club continues its recruitment policy of signing young players viewed as having significant potential.

Yassine has also been linked with FC Barcelona, a possibility first revealed exclusively by Africafoot. He further enhanced his reputation during Strasbourg’s Ligue 1 meeting with RC Lens in August, when he was named player of the match.

His rise has been rapid since moving to Strasbourg, although any transfer to Chelsea would represent another major step in his career. The player remains under contract with Strasbourg until 2030 and is valued at 20 million euros by Transfermarkt.

A move could also be facilitated by the existing relationship between Chelsea and Strasbourg, who are both part of the BlueCo group. Despite the reported progress in talks, there has been no official announcement that a deal has been completed.

Strasbourg are due to face Paris Saint-Germain in their next Ligue 1 fixture, the seventh matchday of the French championship.
