Ifunanyachi Achara has completed a permanent move to Bray Wanderers from Black Rock FC on a free transfer, signing a contract that runs from 2026-02-05 to 2027-12-31. The Nigerian right winger joins the Irish First Division side after a short spell back at Black Rock, adding top-flight MLS and North American experience to the Wicklow club’s attacking options.
Bray Wanderers secured Achara without paying a fee, with the deal registered as a free transfer despite the player’s previous six-figure market valuations earlier in his career. The move takes him out of the United States system once again and into Ireland’s First Division, where he will be eligible to feature as a left-footed right winger. No current market value is listed for the 28-year-old, underlining how far he has drifted from his peak valuation days at Toronto FC.
Achara arrives at Bray with a varied CV across American college soccer, MLS and reserve-team football. Born in Enugu, Nigeria, he developed his game in the United States with Georgetown Hoyas (Georgetown University), first joining them from Black Rock FC on loan and moving back and forth between the two sides in 2018 and 2019. His performances at Georgetown eventually earned him a move to Toronto FC in early 2020, where his market value climbed as high as €400,000 during the 2021–2022 period.
From Toronto, Achara transferred to Houston Dynamo FC in late 2022, before being assigned to Houston Dynamo FC 2 in early 2024. A loan stint at Ventura County FC followed in 2024, after which he returned to Dynamo 2 and then became a free agent at the start of 2025. He rejoined Black Rock FC in May 2025 and now leaves them again for Bray Wanderers as a fully fledged senior professional looking to relaunch his career in Europe.
The Nigerian is listed primarily as an attacking right winger, operating off the flank and favouring his left foot, and stands at 1.78 m. His career path has taken him through US college and developmental leagues, MLS with Toronto FC and Houston Dynamo FC, and second-team and loan environments such as Houston Dynamo FC 2 and Ventura County FC. Now he will compete in Ireland’s First Division, representing Bray Wanderers rather than any club in his home country.
With no contract expiry recorded for his time at Bray beyond the stated end date of 2027-12-31, Achara’s future beyond that point could see him become a free agent again if no extension is agreed. For now, the move offers him a new platform in European football and gives Bray Wanderers an experienced, internationally raised winger who has previously been valued highly and tested in North American professional structures.
If Achara settles quickly in Ireland and reproduces the form that once made him a significant asset at Toronto FC, this spell at Bray Wanderers could prove decisive in reshaping his career trajectory and re-establishing his reputation on the international stage.
