Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has issued an apology to Nigerians following the national team’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Osimhen’s comments were shared on Sunday by CAF-accredited photojournalist Pooja via X, where the Napoli forward addressed the mood within the Super Eagles camp and the expectations surrounding the team.

According to Osimhen, expectations from fans remain high, but he insisted that the players and coaching staff are not weighed down by pressure, citing the confidence they have in the quality available within the squad.

“The expectation is really high, not just within the camp but also from the Super Eagles fans all over the world. I think inasmuch as the expectation is high, there is not a single pressure among my teammates, myself and also the coach because we know the kind of quality we possess,” Osimhen said.

The striker described the Africa Cup of Nations as a chance for the Super Eagles to make amends after the disappointment of missing out on the World Cup, stressing that the team is determined to restore belief among supporters.

“This AFCON is an opportunity for us to try to right our wrongs, to try to make the Super Eagles fans all over the world believe that there is so much more that we can give,” he added.

Osimhen also took the opportunity to formally apologise to Nigerians for the failed World Cup qualification, acknowledging the frustration and disappointment felt by fans across the country.

“We’re so sorry, we have to use the opportunity to say we’re so sorry for not getting the World Cup ticket. I know the disappointment on the faces of a lot of Nigerian fans. Life has happened, so we have to keep it moving,” he said.
