Al-Jazeera Club have completed the signing of Egyptian defensive midfielder Leila from El Dakhlia on a free transfer, in a move that takes the 30-year-old out of his home country to play in Jordan’s top flight.

The deal sees Leila join the Jordanian Pro League side from the Egyptian club after his stint with El Dakhlia, with the transfer registered as a free move. The contract with Al-Jazeera Club runs from 08/12/2025 until 30/06/2027.

Leila, a 1.87m holding midfielder, arrives in Amman with extensive experience in Egyptian football and a brief spell in Europe earlier in his career. Born on 24 January 1995, he has spent the bulk of his professional years in the Egyptian Premier League structure, operating primarily as a defensive midfielder.

Al-Jazeera become the latest stop in a well-travelled career. Within Egypt, Leila has represented Petrojet, Entag El Harby, El Gouna FC, Smouha SC, Masr El Makasa, El Mokawloon SC, Enppi SC and, most recently, El Dakhlia. Outside Egypt he featured for CS Marítimo B in Portugal, giving him early exposure to football beyond North Africa before returning home.

His market value peaked at around €200,000 during his time with Entag El Harby in 2018, before gradually declining as he moved between clubs, with his last recorded valuation at El Dakhlia listed as zero. Despite that, Al-Jazeera have prioritised his experience and positional discipline rather than headline market figures, opting to bring him in without a transfer fee.

The move also continues a trend of Egyptian-based players seeking opportunities elsewhere in the region, with the Jordanian Pro League offering a different tactical and physical profile compared to Egypt’s competitions. For Leila, it represents a return to playing abroad after several domestic moves, this time with the chance to establish himself in a league where organised, physically strong midfielders are often in demand.

Leila’s journey has included a long spell in Egypt’s top clubs outside the country’s traditional giants, giving him familiarity with various tactical setups and relegation or mid-table battles. That breadth of experience is expected to be valuable to Al-Jazeera, who compete in a league where small details in midfield control can be decisive across a tight season.

While detailed recent match statistics, appearances and specific performances are not provided in the available data, his continued movement between professional clubs in Egypt up to his switch to El Dakhlia and then Al-Jazeera underlines his status as a player trusted to operate in the heart of midfield.

From a Jordanian perspective, Al-Jazeera are adding a seasoned professional who has operated consistently at a decent level in Egypt and has previously coped with a foreign environment in Portugal. From an Egyptian viewpoint, another experienced domestic midfielder is stepping out of the local scene, underscoring the regional pull of leagues such as the Jordanian Pro League.

If Leila settles quickly, this move has the potential to extend his career at a competitive level, reshape his reputation as a reliable foreign anchor in Jordan, and open further doors in regional football once his current deal with Al-Jazeera Club runs its course.
