Former Al Ahly goalkeeper Ekramy El Shehata describes Ramadan Sobhi mental battle and support
Former Al Ahly goalkeeper Ekramy El Shehata spoke emotionally about the situation of his son-in-law, Ramadan Sobhi, who is going through a very difficult period after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) issued a four-year suspension over alleged manipulation of a doping sample.
He also faces a separate legal case, with a decision to keep him in custody until 30 December while the issue of alleged exam fraud is reviewed.
Ekramy praised the huge support surrounding the Pyramids star, especially from the club’s owners, teammates and staff, stressing that contact with him has not stopped and that everyone is trying to stand beside him in this crisis. He said: “I would like to thank Mahmoud El Khatib, the Al Ahly president, for the board statement supporting Ramadan Sobhi in his ordeal, and I also thank Yassin Mansour, the club’s vice president, for his stance.”
According to Ekramy, Sobhi’s psychological state has started to improve gradually after the initial shock, although prison visits are limited to first-degree relatives only. He underlined the clear public sympathy for the player from fans of different clubs, adding that Ramadan is now in a better place mentally and deeply appreciates everyone who has backed him in this tough time
