Mamadou Sarr addressed his international future for the first time, two weeks after making his senior debut for Senegal.

He described his choice to represent the Lions of Teranga as “normal” and said he never questioned the decision.

The 20-year-old defender, who belongs to Chelsea and currently plays on loan at RC Strasbourg, began his career in France’s youth system and featured in nearly thirty matches at various levels.

He faced a key decision early on: commit to France or follow his family’s lineage with Senegal.

He chose Senegal, and he now says that decision felt natural from the beginning.

Sarr delivered an impressive performance in Senegal’s emphatic 8-0 win over Kenya, a moment that marked his official arrival with the senior team.

He reflected on that step during an interview on Canal+ Sport Afrique’s Talents d’Afrique, noting that he never hesitated about the direction he wanted to take.

He acknowledged the strong competition within Senegal’s defensive lineup and expressed respect for the players who currently occupy those positions.

Sarr emphasised patience and commitment as he works toward earning regular minutes with the national side.

“You have to stay patient,” he said. “The team includes world-class players, especially in my position. I need to wait for my moment, and when it comes, I hope to take my chance.”

Sarr now focuses on building consistency at club level while staying ready for future national team call-ups.

His remarks highlight confidence in his path and a clear desire to grow within a squad he deeply values.
