Spanish-Nigerian striker Samu Aghehowa emerges as Tottenham’s long-term striker target
Tottenham are reportedly eyeing Porto striker Samu Aghehowa as they search for a long-term replacement for Harry Kane. The focus is on securing a proven goal-scorer to restore firepower to their attack.
Aghehowa, who is of Nigerian heritage, has impressed in Portugal, scoring six goals and providing one assist in 10 league appearances this season.
His performances have drawn attention from top European clubs, including Spurs, eager to strengthen their frontline.
Kane’s departure in 2023 left a significant void at Tottenham. The England captain scored 280 goals and provided 63 assists in 435 appearances for Spurs before moving to Bayern Munich, where he has netted 109 goals in the Bundesliga.
Since Kane’s exit, Tottenham have struggled to find consistent attacking form. Richarlison has failed to deliver the expected goals, while Dominic Solanke has been hampered by recurring injuries.
Manager Thomas Frank has overseen a toothless attack, highlighting the need for a reliable striker.
Frank’s previous work with Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins at Brentford has influenced his pursuit of Aghehowa.
The Porto forward reportedly fits the profile of a striker who can lead the line effectively, similar to Toney and Watkins, who have since moved to Aston Villa and Al-Ahli respectively.
Aghehowa was previously close to joining Chelsea in 2024, with a £35 million deal agreed.
However, the transfer collapsed after he failed a medical due to an ankle injury. Despite this setback, Tottenham remain interested, seeing him as a potential cornerstone of their future attack.
