Al Ahly sign deal to build sixth branch in New Sohag City

Al Ahly have signed an agreement to build their sixth branch and first in Upper Egypt, with the new facility planned for New Sohag City.

The club said the project forms part of its wider geographical expansion strategy and is intended to strengthen its presence across Egypt’s governorates. It will also extend Al Ahly’s sporting, social and service offering to supporters and residents in Sohag.

The signing ceremony was attended by Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib, vice-president Yassin Mansour and board members Tarek Kandil, Sayed Abdel Hafiz, Ahmed Hossam Awad, Ibrahim El Amary and Ruweida Hesham. The club’s executive director, Saad Shalaby, was also present.

The agreement was signed through Al Ahly Sports Facilities Company, which is chaired by Tamer Nasr.

The proposed branch will cover approximately 30 feddans and is expected to include a broad range of sporting, social and service facilities. Al Ahly said the development would provide an integrated branch for members while offering direct and varied services to a large section of the population in Sohag Governorate.

Plans include a main social building and an administrative building, together with a swimming-pool complex. The site will also feature football pitches and courts for basketball, volleyball and handball.

There will additionally be tennis courts, a gym, and buildings dedicated to the club’s youth sector and academies. The facilities are intended to support both sporting participation and the development of young players.

Al Ahly said the New Sohag City branch represented an important stage in its plan to expand beyond Cairo and make the club’s services available to people in Upper Egypt.

The club also described the project as a means of creating an integrated sporting environment that can help identify and develop talent across different governorates. The expansion is aligned with the Egyptian state’s Vision 2045, which includes the construction and development of sporting and service facilities.

The New Sohag City development is the club’s first branch in Upper Egypt and its sixth branch overall, according to Al Ahly. The project reflects the club’s stated objective of reaching more communities across Egypt while maintaining a network of facilities combining sport, administration, social activities and services.

The announcement did not give a date for construction to be completed or for the branch to open.
