Juventus in talks to sign Franck Kessie as Al-Ittihad join race

Juventus are in intensive negotiations with Franck Kessie over a move for the Ivory Coast midfielder, according to Sky Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Kessie is currently available as a free agent after leaving Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli when his contract ended. Juventus are keen to complete a deal as soon as possible, but face competition from Saudi Arabia, with Al-Ittihad among the clubs to have made an offer.

Romano wrote on X: “Juventus are holding intensive talks with Franck Kessie to sign him for the team as soon as possible.”

He added: “Kessie has received two offers to move to Saudi Arabia, including Al-Ittihad, who are waiting for a response.”

The 29-year-old joined Al-Ahli in August 2023 from Spanish club Barcelona. At the time, he signed a contract that was due to run until the summer of 2026, although he has now departed the club following the end of his deal.

Kessie played 42 matches for Al-Ahli last season, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists. During his time with the club, he also helped them win two successive AFC Champions League Elite titles.

Juventus are looking to strengthen their midfield after the departure of Fabio Miretti, who has joined Besiktas. The Turin club have also ended Arthur Melo’s contract by mutual consent.

Kessie began his senior career in Italy with Atalanta before moving to AC Milan, where he established himself as one of Serie A’s most influential midfielders. His performances earned him a move to Barcelona, and he later continued his career in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli.

The current talks with Juventus come as the Italian club seek to reshape their midfield options ahead of the new season. Kessie’s previous experience in Serie A, together with his record of goals and assists at Al-Ahli, has made him a target as Juventus assess replacements for the players who have left.

However, Al-Ittihad remain involved in the transfer race and are awaiting Kessie’s decision on their proposal. Romano’s report indicates that the midfielder has received two offers from Saudi Arabia, meaning Juventus must move quickly if they are to secure his signature before a rival deal is agreed.

The Italian club’s negotiations with Kessie are therefore continuing, while the player considers whether to return to Serie A or remain in Saudi Arabia.
