Kante tips Manchester United to renew pursuit of Cameroon’s Carlos Baleba in January
Former Mali international Cedric Kante believes Manchester United will revive their attempts to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba when the transfer window reopens.
United made several unsuccessful approaches during the summer but continue to track the highly rated Cameroon international as part of their long-term midfield planning.
Baleba, who joined Brighton from Lille in 2023 and has developed into one of the Premier League’s most promising young midfielders, has attracted growing attention across Europe.
His athletic profile and composure in possession have strengthened speculation that he could become a priority target for clubs seeking a powerful and progressive midfield option.
United have been monitoring midfield reinforcements for future windows, having missed out on several targets during the most recent market.
Speaking to Africa Foot, Kante explained that the interest from Old Trafford has been consistent rather than speculative.
“Manchester United have been interested in him for some time now, especially during the last summer transfer window,” he said.
Kante added that United possess the financial strength required to complete such a deal and suggested that a move is increasingly likely.
“In my opinion, yes, Baleba will sign with a big English club soon. It seems a done deal.”
Brighton have earned a reputation for securing significant fees for their leading players, which has contributed to expectations that Baleba would command a substantial valuation. Kante noted that Brighton’s stance could change if a major bid arrives.
“If a club comes in with an offer of over €100 million, his management will find it hard to refuse,” he said. He also believes that any club willing to invest heavily would receive an immediate asset. “Whoever signs him will be getting a good deal: he’s a reliable, consistent player they can count on.”
United are expected to assess their squad needs during the winter window, with midfield viewed as an area requiring depth and long-term solutions.
Brighton, meanwhile, are under no pressure to sell, and a mid-season departure would likely depend on the magnitude of any offer.
