Cristiano Ronaldo keeps wedding to Georgina Rodriguez a family-only affair

Cristiano Ronaldo married Georgina Rodriguez in a highly private civil ceremony at the couple’s newly built mansion near Lisbon, with only four witnesses and their children present. The absence of Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, and his three siblings was a notable feature of the event.

The ceremony took place at 13:30 on Tuesday, 11 August, at Ronaldo’s £30m home in the exclusive Quinta da Marinha area of Cascais, Portugal.

The marriage was registered by Maria Manuel Ferreira de Campos Folhadela de Oliveira, an official who travelled from Porto in northern Portugal to Cascais to complete the formalities.

According to The Sun, the four witnesses were Georgina’s sister, Ivana Rodriguez; Ronaldo’s long-time close friend Miguel Paixao; and a Spanish couple, Jose Rodriguez Sangil and his wife, Monica Gonzalez Martinez. Portuguese media have reported that Jose Rodriguez Sangil works in the jewellery industry.

Ronaldo’s family members who were absent included his mother Dolores and siblings Hugo, Elma and Katia. The only members of his family at the ceremony were his children: Cristiano Jr, twins Eva Maria and Mateo, Alana and Bella.

Although Dolores did not attend, she publicly supported her son’s marriage by responding with a heart emoji to his Instagram post announcing that the wedding had taken place.

The wedding followed almost 10 years of Ronaldo and Rodriguez’s relationship and came exactly one year after the couple announced their engagement on social media.

Ronaldo’s representatives had previously confirmed that he and Rodriguez married on 11 August in a family ceremony. The couple later shared photographs of themselves wearing wedding rings on their respective accounts.

The official announcement came after several days of speculation that the wedding would take place at Funchal Cathedral on the island of Madeira, where Ronaldo was born. Those reports proved to be incorrect.

Details of the location and arrangements had been kept private until Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Noticias published a copy of the marriage document. It showed that the ceremony had taken place at Ronaldo’s recently completed mansion in Quinta da Marinha.

The document also confirmed that the couple had chosen to keep their assets separate. They signed a prenuptial agreement with a notary in Lisbon on 10 August, one day before the wedding.

Ronaldo’s full name, his place of birth and details of his parents were recorded in the document, including information about his late father, Jose Dinis. It also listed Rodriguez’s details, including her full name, Georgina Louisa Rodriguez Hernandez, and confirmed that she is 32 and was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The couple will keep their existing names after the marriage, with Rodriguez not taking Ronaldo’s surname. That differs from the convention commonly associated with marriage in Britain, where women often adopt their husband’s family name.

The marriage was registered under number 1493 for the year. It appears to have been entered at the civil registry office in Porto, although the ceremony itself was held in Cascais.

After marrying in Portugal, Ronaldo and Rodriguez returned to Saudi Arabia. Ronaldo continues his career with Al-Nassr, having joined the club after moving to the Saudi Pro League.
