Egypt have been knocked out of the 2025 FIFA U17 Men’s World Cup after a 3-1 defeat to Switzerland on Friday.

The Swiss made their intentions clear early, taking the lead in the 19th minute through forward Nevio Scherrer.

Lausanne-Sport midfielder Ethan Bruchez extended the advantage six minutes before the break, leaving Egypt with a mountain to climb heading into the second half.

Any hopes of a comeback were further dashed in the 58th minute when FC Zürich’s Jill Stiel added Switzerland’s third, effectively sealing the result. Egypt managed a late consolation through substitute Anas Roshdy in stoppage time, but it did little to alter the outcome as the Swiss marched comfortably into the next round.

The young Pharaohs had advanced to the knockout phase as one of the eight best third-placed teams after finishing third in Group E with four points, trailing Venezuela and England.

After Friday’s names, attention now shifts to Saturday’s fixtures, where Senegal meet Uganda, South Africa face Japan, Burkina Faso battle Germany and Tunisia take on Austria in the continuation of the Round of 32.
