Why Zamalek dropped Mohamed Sobhi from the Super Cup clash against Pyramids

The Zamalek coaching staff, led by interim manager Ahmed Abdel Raouf, decided to leave goalkeeper Mohamed Sobhi out of the squad facing Pyramids in the Egyptian Super Cup semifinal.

The move comes as Sobhi is still recovering from an injury and has not completed his rehabilitation program. Sources close to the team said, “We didn’t want to risk his health, especially since this match could go to penalties.”

Sobhi’s injury, sustained during a recent match against Tala’ea El-Gaish, meant veteran goalkeeper Mohamed Awad would take on the leading role. The spotlight now falls on Awad who, despite limited playtime this season, must defend Zamalek’s goal against a formidable Pyramids attack.

Awad voiced his readiness: “We’re used to challenges and our goal is to bring home the cup. Every player who wears Zamalek’s shirt is up to the task.” He encouraged new team members and appealed to fans: “Your support makes the difference in every tournament. We promise a strong match and hope to celebrate the cup together.” This semifinal is not only a test for the players, but for the team’s resolve under pressure.
