Bayern Munich prioritising French-Congolese forward Christopher Nkunku as Coman successor
Bayern Munich have identified Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku as their top target to replace Kingsley Coman, who is on the verge of joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.
The Bundesliga champions are ready to accelerate their pursuit in a bid to secure the France international before the close of the summer transfer window.
Nkunku, 27, was born in Lagny-sur-Marne, France, and has DR Congolese heritage through his family.
A versatile and technically gifted attacker, he enjoyed a prolific spell with RB Leipzig before moving to Stamford Bridge in 2023, where injuries have hampered his impact.
According to L’Équipe, Bayern have made Nkunku their priority as Coman’s successor and are confident his experience in German football makes him an ideal fit for their system.
The Bavarians agreed personal terms with the player in January but were deterred by Chelsea’s €70 million asking price at the time.
Circumstances have now shifted in Bayern’s favour. Chelsea are reportedly willing to listen to offers for Nkunku this summer as part of their squad reshaping, and Bayern believe the Premier League side could adopt a more reasonable valuation.
Driving the push is Bayern sporting director Max Eberl, who has admired Nkunku since his Leipzig days. Eberl is convinced the forward’s creativity, pace, and finishing ability could help fill the void Coman’s departure will leave on the flanks.
Bayern’s interest comes as the club look to refresh their attacking options while maintaining their competitive edge in both the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League.
Coman’s imminent move to Al-Nassr represents a significant change for the German champions, who see Nkunku as a ready-made replacement with proven Bundesliga pedigree.
