Burnley have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Lesley Ugochukwu, with the young midfielder expected to undergo a medical in the coming days ahead of a permanent switch to Turf Moor.
Ugochukwu, who is of Nigerian descent but represents France at youth level, is poised to leave Stamford Bridge after two seasons, having been deemed surplus to requirements under new manager Enzo Maresca.
The 21-year-old joined Chelsea from Ligue 1 side Rennes for £23.1 million under Mauricio Pochettino but struggled to cement a regular place in the squad.
The midfielder made 31 appearances for the Blues, contributing three goals and assists across all competitions.
According to transfer expert David Ornstein, Burnley have now agreed a deal to bring Ugochukwu in on a five-year contract, with the player set to strengthen Scott Parker’s midfield options in both the No.6 and No.8 roles.
“EXCL: Burnley reach agreement with Chelsea to sign Lesley Ugochukwu. 21yo set to travel for medical & complete permanent move from #CFC to #BurnleyFC on 5yr contract,” Ornstein reported.
Ugochukwu’s exit comes amid a broader squad overhaul at Chelsea, where several first-team players including Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi, Ben Chilwell, and Renato Veiga are reportedly available for transfer.
The club is also looking to balance the books with potential incoming moves, notably RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons.
Burnley, newly promoted to the Premier League, are aiming to build a squad capable of surviving top-flight football.
Talks are ongoing with Chelsea for another potential signing in striker Armando Broja, as the Clarets look to capitalise on opportunities to recruit from clubs undergoing major restructuring.
