Hafiz Gariba has described the overwhelming joy that greeted his move to Barcelona, saying it was a proud moment for both him and his family when he signed for the Spanish giants.
The Ghanaian defender secured a three-year contract with Barcelona’s Juvenil B U-18 team after impressing scouts during his time in Spain.
Gariba started out with local side Zinaps FC, where his talent quickly became evident. His potential earned him a spot at Villarreal CF Africa, a pathway that helped refine his game and exposed him to European recruiters.
Gariba’s big break came after a stint at the Marcet Soccer Academy in Spain, where Barcelona’s scouts followed his development closely.
The Catalan club were particularly impressed with his technical qualities and calm presence in defence, prompting them to offer the teenager a deal to join their famed La Masia academy.
“The first time I heard of Barcelona’s interest was at Marcet Academy. We had a training and then they told me that I’m going to Barcelona.
“I was so happy and my teammates were so happy for me as well. I called my family and they were so glad to hear the news,” Gariba told Flashscore.
His move to Barcelona also fulfilled a childhood dream.
“When I was young I used to wear Barcelona jerseys and I told people around me one day I will play for Barcelona,” he added.
Gariba now joins a long line of young talents at La Masia, hoping to follow in the footsteps of players who progressed through the ranks to become global stars.
