Aston Villa target FC Porto’s Samu Aghehowa in potential summer move

Portuguese giants FC Porto have completed the full acquisition of promising striker Samu Aghehowa, bringing an end to Atletico Madrid’s remaining financial interest in the forward.

Aghehowa, who was born in Spain and is of Nigerian descent, has emerged as one of the most exciting attacking prospects in European football over the past year.

The Spain international joined Porto from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024 and has since flourished in the Primeira Liga.

The 21-year-old striker lived up to the high expectations that accompanied his arrival, scoring 27 goals and registering three assists in 45 appearances across all competitions during the 2024/25 campaign.

His clinical finishing and physical presence have made him a key figure in Porto’s frontline and one of the standout performers in Portuguese football.

Porto initially acquired 65% of Aghehowa’s economic rights for €15 million in 2023.

According to reports in Portugal, the club has now paid an additional €5 million for a further 15%, before sealing full ownership with another €7 million payment for the remaining 20%, taking their total investment to €27 million.

This latest move ensures that Porto will retain 100% of any future transfer fee for the striker, who is attracting growing interest from elite clubs across Europe.

Aghehowa’s blend of technical quality, pace, and goal-scoring instinct has placed him firmly on the radar of scouts from England, Germany, and Italy.

However, Porto are determined to retain his services for at least another season as they prepare for a renewed title challenge and UEFA Champions League campaign.
