Former Al Ahly winger Ahmed El Sheikh has openly criticised ex-head coach Pitso Mosimane for the decision to terminate his contract during the South African’s tenure at the Egyptian giants.
Mosimane, who managed Al Ahly between 2020 and 2022, enjoyed a remarkable spell in charge, winning consecutive CAF Champions League titles in 2020 and 2021.
While his time at the club is largely viewed as a golden era, not all players were content with his leadership.
El Sheikh, now 32, revealed that he ended his contract with the Red Devils just months after Mosimane’s arrival, citing a lack of involvement in the team’s plans.
“I had no problem going out on loan during my last stint with South African coach Pitso Mosimane, but I didn’t like the idea of being just an employee who only attended training sessions,” El Sheikh said per MSN.com.
The former Egypt international also disclosed that he turned down a move to the Czech Republic, believing the timing wasn’t right for a European switch.
“I also rejected an offer to play professionally in the Czech league because the timing wasn’t right, and I was ready to play in any strong league at the time.
“I joined Al-Ettifaq Saudi Club for six months during the winter transfer window. I performed well, scoring goals and creating others,” he added.
“I contributed to the team finishing fourth in the league, even though the team was in the bottom three at the time I joined.”
