Ghana’s women’s national team has concluded its training camp in Morocco, with head coach Kim Björkegren praising his players for their dedication and unity.
Despite a narrow 1-0 defeat to Morocco in their only friendly match, the Swedish coach expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress and collective effort.
Encouraging signs despite defeat
The Black Queens faced a tough challenge against the Moroccan women’s team, with a late goal from Sakina Ouzraoui proving to be the difference.
However, Björkegren remained positive, highlighting the discipline and commitment shown by his squad.
We are having a great team spirit here. They have worked hard in training.
We did a job in the game against Morocco even if the result was not what we were hoping for.
They followed all the instructions and did well. We are leaving as a better group and a better team,” he stated.
The friendly match marked an important step in Björkegren’s tenure, giving him an opportunity to assess his squad and implement his tactical ideas.
While the result did not go in Ghana’s favor, the team’s performance provided valuable insights as they prepare for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Cancelled friendly and continued preparations
Originally, the Black Queens were scheduled to play a second friendly against Raja Casablanca Women.
However, unforeseen circumstances beyond the Ghana Football Association’s control led to the cancellation of the fixture.
Despite this setback, the training camp was deemed a success, allowing the team to focus on key tactical and physical preparations.
With qualification for the 2026 Women’s AFCON on the horizon, Björkegren remains optimistic about Ghana’s chances.
The camp in Morocco has not only strengthened the team’s cohesion but also provided a solid foundation for upcoming competitive fixtures.
As the Black Queens continue their journey under new leadership, the focus now shifts to fine-tuning their game plan and ensuring they are fully prepared for the challenges ahead.
Björkegren’s confidence in his players reflects a belief that Ghana can compete at the highest level, with the ultimate goal of securing a place in the continental tournament.
