Former Super Eagles and Inter Milan striker, Obafemi Martins, has expressed admiration for Ademola Lookman following his recent accolade as the African Footballer of the Year.
Lookman made a major impact early in 2024 during the AFCON 2023 tournament, where he netted three goals, aiding the Super Eagles in reaching the final before losing to Ivory Coast.
Building on his tournament success, Lookman continued to shine by leading Atalanta to the Coppa Italia final against Juventus.
Although they lost that match, he later secured a memorable victory in Dublin, scoring a hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, which earned Atalanta their first major trophy in 61 years.
Martins praised Lookman’s performance and compared his playing style to his own, recognizing his technical skills and goal-scoring ability.
“He’s one of my favourite players as well. My favourite striker because every time I watch him, I just think about me and the way I used to play, but he’s probably better with the techniques and everything. He knows how to score goals as well, so I’m very happy for him and I think he can do better.
“The way he plays, he can play in the top teams in Premier League like Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United. I don’t know about Chelsea,” the former Newcastle United striker said in an interview with Livescore.
